Western Food In Bugis | 15 Best Places for Steak, Burgers & Pasta
Some days, only a big plate of Western food will do.
A chicken chop with black pepper sauce. A juicy burger that drips down your wrist. A bowl of creamy pasta, or a sizzling steak with fries on the side. For me, Western food is comfort food. It is what I crave after a long week, on a rainy evening, or when I just want something simple and familiar.
And Bugis is full of it.
Inside Bugis Junction and Bugis+, you will find the affordable Western chains many of us grew up with, plus exciting newcomers like Singapore’s first Chick-fil-A. Walk a few minutes towards Kampong Glam and Beach Road, and you will discover halal burger bars, handmade pasta, French bistros and a steakhouse with a view.
Good Western food does not need to be fancy. It just needs to be generous, honest and hot off the grill.
Here are my 15 favourite places for Western food in Bugis, from $5 breakfast pizza to a special-occasion steak. Every place on this list was checked as open in October 2026.

Western Food at Bugis Junction
1. Josh’s Grill

Josh’s Grill is my go-to for a proper char-grilled chicken chop. The meat is cooked low and slow first, then finished on the grill, so it stays juicy inside with smoky, charred edges outside. Pick your sauce (the spicy Dynamite Sauce is my favourite), choose your sides, and do not leave without trying the huge onion rings.
- Must-try: Char-Grill Spicy Chicken Chop with Dynamite Sauce, Josh’s Famous Onion Rings, Baked Onion Rice
- Price: chicken chops from around $17 to $18 on the delivery menu (usually a little less when dining in)
- Hours: daily, 11:30am to 10:30pm
- Address: Bugis Junction, 200 Victoria Street, #01-69
Read my full Josh’s Grill Bugis review for the complete menu and prices.
2. Eighteen Chefs

Eighteen Chefs is famous for its cheese baked rice, and for doing good. Founded by Chef Benny Se Teo, it is a social enterprise that gives ex-offenders and at-risk youths a second chance in the kitchen. Build your own cheese baked rice or pasta, and enjoy one of the most filling meals in Bugis for the price.
- Must-try: Be Your Own Chef cheese baked rice, Breaded Chicken Cutlet with Japanese Curry Baked Rice, Truffle Fries
- Price: Be Your Own Chef from around $8.90. Student and NSF meals from $8.80 on weekday afternoons.
- Hours: Sun–Thu 11:30am to 9:30pm, Fri–Sat 11:30am to 10pm
- Address: Bugis Junction, 200 Victoria Street, #04-06
More in my Eighteen Chefs Bugis guide.
3. Swensen’s

Swensen’s is pure nostalgia: family dinners, birthday sundaes and that famous Chicken in the Basket. The Western menu is huge, with baked rice, burgers, grills, pasta and pizza, and then there is dessert. Always save room for dessert.
- Must-try: Clam Chowder in a bread bowl, Japanese Katsu Curry Baked Rice, Chicken in the Basket, then the Earthquake sundae if you are sharing
- Price: most mains from $15.90 to $19.90, steaks from $26.90
- Hours: daily, 11:30am to 10:30pm
- Address: Bugis Junction, 200 Victoria Street, #01-68
See my full Swensen’s Bugis menu guide.
4. Big Fish Small Fish

For fish and chips, Big Fish Small Fish is the place. Pick your fish, choose your batter or have it grilled, and help yourself to the free-flow sauces, including cheese, salted egg and curry. It is halal-certified, which makes it a great choice for mixed groups.
- Must-try: Signature Fish & Crisps, with a salted egg dip
- Price: Classic Fish & Chips from $15.90++ (dory)
- Hours: daily, 11am to 9:30pm
- Address: Bugis Junction, 200 Victoria Street, #04-05
Full details in my Big Fish Small Fish Bugis guide.
Western Food at Bugis+
5. Astons Specialities

Astons is the reason many Singaporeans believe a good steak does not have to be expensive. Grilled-to-order ribeye, sirloin and chargrilled chicken come with two sides each, and pastas come with the soup of the day. It is simple, hearty and very good value.
- Must-try: Prime Ribeye, Chargrilled Chicken, Honey Bourbon Ribs
- Price: most mains roughly $10 to $20
- Deals: students get $2 off a main plus a free soft drink on weekdays from 3pm to 5pm (not on public or school holidays)
- Hours: daily, 11am to 10pm
- Address: Bugis+, 201 Victoria Street, #05-08/08A
My tip: halal status differs between Astons outlets, so ask at the counter if it matters to you.
6. Chick-fil-A

Here is some exciting news. In December 2025, Bugis+ became home to Asia’s very first Chick-fil-A, the much-loved American chicken sandwich chain. It was one of the most talked-about openings of the year, and it is still a buzzing spot at lunchtime.
The star is the Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich, a crispy, juicy fillet in a buttered bun with pickles. Pair it with the waffle potato fries and try the signature sauces, including a Singapore-exclusive Spicy Chili Sauce.
- Must-try: the Original Chicken Sandwich, Waffle Potato Fries, nuggets
- Price: chicken sandwich around $6.80, waffle fries around $4.20, 8-piece nuggets around $6.90
- Hours: Monday to Saturday, 10am to 10pm (closed on Sundays)
- Address: Bugis+, 201 Victoria Street, #01-19
My tip: remember it is closed on Sundays, a Chick-fil-A tradition. Do not plan a Sunday lunch here like I almost did.
7. SIDES by The Sidemen

SIDES is the fried chicken chain from the famous British YouTube group, the Sidemen, and Bugis+ is home to its outlet in Singapore. Crispy chicken tenders, burgers, and a whole wall of sauces, nine in total, including Nashville Cheese and the XIX Buffalo.
- Must-try: Nashville Tenders, Classic Burger, a few dipping sauces
- Price: Classic Burger around $12.50, Nashville Tenders around $9.90
- Hours: daily, around 11am to 9pm
- Address: Bugis+, 201 Victoria Street, #03-25/26
8. rumeL

rumeL (that is “lemur” spelled backwards) is my favourite cheap eat in Bugis right now. It makes sourdough Neapolitan-style pizzas with a naturally fermented crust, starting from just $6.80 for a six-inch pizza. And in the morning, it has $5 breakfast pizzas, including a Singapore-style Kaya Butter Pizza.
- Must-try: Hot Honey Cheese, Beef Bolognese, Kaya Butter Pizza (breakfast)
- Price: breakfast pizzas $5 (8am to 11am). All-day pizzas from $6.80, with coffee from $2.80.
- Hours: daily, 8am to 10pm

My tip: grab a six-inch pizza and a coffee for a quick, cheap lunch before an afternoon of shopping.

9. Tipo Pasta Bar

Tipo is a fresh-pasta bar at Aliwal Arts Centre, and it is so much fun. You build your own bowl: choose your fresh pasta, your sauce and your toppings. It is affordable and Muslim-owned, and the pasta is made fresh.
- Must-try: Build Your Own Pasta, Royal Ragu, Classy Carbonara
- Price: build-your-own from $9.90++, mains up to around $21.90++
- Hours: daily, 12pm to 9pm

10. Ashes Burnnit

Want a great burger at hawker prices? Ashes Burnnit is a halal-certified burger stall in the basement of Golden Mile Food Centre on Beach Road. It is a favourite with students and anyone who wants a gourmet-style burger without the restaurant bill.
- Must-try: Best of Both World Burger, Truffle Mushroom Burger, Grilled Chicken Mac & Cheese
- Price: around $5.90 to $11.50
- Hours: daily, 11am to 9pm
- Address: Golden Mile Food Centre, 505 Beach Road, #B1-24
11. Cicheti

Cicheti on Kandahar Street is a cosy Italian trattoria known for wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas, handmade pastas and Venetian-style small plates. It is warm, lively and perfect for a date night or dinner with friends.
- Must-try: tagliatelle with beef short rib sauce, wood-fired pizza, beef tartare
- Price: around $45 to $70 per person
- Hours: lunch and dinner daily (closed between lunch and dinner)
- Address: 52 Kandahar Street
12. The Plump Frenchman

The Plump Frenchman at Guoco Midtown II is a charming French bistro, led by a chef with experience at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon. It is my pick for an elegant but relaxed French meal, and the two-course lunch set is excellent value.
- Must-try: baby squid stuffed with chorizo, the tableside chocolate mousse
- Price: two-course lunch set from around $25
- Hours: lunch and dinner daily
- Address: Guoco Midtown II, 20 Tan Quee Lan Street, #01-20
13. 665°F, Andaz Singapore

For a special occasion, 665°F is the steakhouse I dream about. It sits on Level 38 of Andaz Singapore, right above Bugis, with stunning city views. Dry-aged and wagyu steaks are cooked at very high heat for a beautiful crust, with a few Southeast Asian touches on the menu.
- Must-try: dry-aged steak, wagyu, grilled meats
- Price: around $100 and up per person
- Address: Level 38, Andaz Singapore, 5 Fraser Street
My tip: book a table near the window around sunset. The view is half the experience.
A Little Story: Singapore’s Own Style of Western Food
Have you ever wondered why a “Western” chicken chop in Singapore comes with baked beans, coleslaw and fries, and a pool of black pepper sauce?
Singapore has its own style of Western food, often called “hawker Western” or “Hainanese Western”. Many of the cooks who worked in colonial-era kitchens, clubs and hotels were Hainanese, and they learned to cook British-style dishes like chops, stews and fried fish. Over time, they adapted these recipes to local tastes and brought them to coffee shops and hawker centres.
That is why Singapore’s Western food feels so different from what you would eat in London or New York. Sauces are bolder, portions are generous, and there is often a touch of local flavour: sambal, salted egg, curry or kaya.
You can see this tradition all over Bugis today. Josh’s Grill and Astons serve affordable grills with sides. Eighteen Chefs and Swensen’s offer baked rice that could only exist in Asia. rumeL puts kaya on a pizza. And Big Fish Small Fish serves fish and chips with salted egg and curry sauces. It is Western food, but it is unmistakably ours.
My Perfect Western Food Day in Bugis
If you want to eat your way through Bugis (no judgement), here is how I would do it.
- 8:30am, breakfast: a $5 Kaya Butter Pizza and a coffee at rumeL, Bugis+.
- 12pm, lunch: a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich and waffle fries (Monday to Saturday), or a steak at Astons on Level 5 of Bugis+.
- Afternoon: walk it off through Bugis Street and Kampong Glam, with a coffee at one of my favourite cafés in Bugis.
- 7pm, dinner: handmade pasta at Cicheti, or a burger at (working title) Burger Bar.
- Late night: still hungry? FatPapas on Bali Lane is open until 2am.
How Much Does Western Food Cost in Bugis?
| Budget | What You Get | Where to Go |
|---|---|---|
| Under $10 | Sourdough pizza, hawker burger, chicken sandwich | rumeL, Ashes Burnnit, Chick-fil-A |
| $10 to $20 | Chicken chop, cheese baked rice, affordable steak | Astons, Eighteen Chefs, Josh’s Grill, Tipo, SIDES |
| $20 to $40 | Burgers, fish and chips, family Western dinner | (working title), FatPapas, Big Fish Small Fish, Swensen’s, Plump Frenchman lunch |
| $40 and above | Italian trattoria or premium steak | Cicheti, 665°F |
Many restaurants add 10% service charge and 9% GST (shown as “++”), so expect to pay about 20% more than the menu price. Hawker stalls and fast-casual spots usually show nett prices.
Halal Western Food in Bugis
I get asked about this a lot, so here is a quick summary:
- Halal-certified: Big Fish Small Fish (Bugis Junction), Ashes Burnnit (Golden Mile Food Centre), and SIDES (Bugis+). Swensen’s Bugis Junction is also listed as halal-certified on the mall directory.
- Muslim-owned: (working title) Burger Bar, FatPapas and Tipo Pasta Bar. Muslim-owned is not the same as MUIS-certified, so check with the restaurant if certification matters to you.
- Check the outlet: Astons halal status differs by outlet.
Halal certificates are renewed yearly, so it is always worth a quick check in store.

My Final Note
I used to think Western food was the “safe” choice. The thing you order when you cannot decide. But Bugis has changed my mind.
Here, Western food can be a $5 kaya pizza at breakfast. A chicken chop that has given ex-offenders a second chance. A messy burger at midnight on Bali Lane. A steak above the city lights. It can be simple, surprising, comforting or special.
So next time you are craving something familiar in Bugis, try somewhere new on this list. Bring a friend, share a few plates, and take your time.
That is what Bugis is all about for me. Good food, good company, and no rush.
